When To Remain Patient and When The News Cannot Wait Til Daybreak

There can be moments and times when you just cannot wait. It may not happen often but when it does, it usually is significant. They could not wait til morning.

These two men recognised the risen and living Lord Jesus Christ when He took bread and blessed it at table in their home, and a decision was made immediately to return to Jerusalem and inform the others.

They had met him on the road as they walked from Jerusalem to their home village, and what an exciting conversation they enjoyed. The cut and thrust was rivetting. But as they journeyed along the way they had not recognised who it was. Jesus Christ can be this near some people and somehow they seem to be totally unaware of being in his presence. This news was too good to keep until the night was over.

When a man really sees who Jesus is, he is just bursting to tell someone.

Their hearts were touched. Their eyes were opened, and they rushed back to be in the fellowship with all the others.

In the middle of sharing what they had experienced, Jesus Christ appears in that room.

He speaks a word of peace to those still a little confused. They had been on an emotional roller coaster of a week, and they so needed more than what a temporary tranquilliser might afford.

How many troubled restless hearts need the peace of God in these present times? There are so many on pills and tablets, and Jesus Christ continues to offer that quality of peace which cannot be found in a bottle.

Jesus gave that roomful another Bible Study, and spoke about repentance, forgiveness, sacrificial suffering on the cross, and rising from the dead. O, to have had an audio tape or DVD of that evening message in the Upper Room!

These were to be the preachers who would soon be going out from Jerusalem to all the nations. But, not yet.

They were to wait for the fulfilment of what God the Father promised.

Jesus cautioned them against rushing out preaching before receiving that necessary and essential equipping. Stay in Jerusalem until you have been clothed power from on high. Remain in the city until you have received the power of the Holy Spirit. Do not go rushing out preaching and witnessing and trying to heal the sick, until you have all the equipping which you will require.

John the Baptist spoke of Jesus doing this. Jesus taught that He would do it. The Father promised these disciples that this would happen, and it did. There are times when it is almost impossible to be patient and wait until daybreak, and there are times when it is essential that we exercise patience.

Waiting patiently is one of the hardest things God can ask a man to do. Leaders must know what to do and when.

Jesus promises help. He promises peace. He promises power. He promises to be with us always. Why miss out on anything God has to offer?
